The Kingdom of Benin was paid manillas (bronze currency) in exchange for human beings they sold to Europeans into the Transatlantic Slave trade. They melted them down, casting them into bronzes. The statues are currently in museums all over the world. The value of bronzes is estimated in the billions, and the dealers of human cargo want them back.
